Cismigiu Gardens
"Cismigiu Gardens" are the oldest public gardens in Bucharest. It is situated in the center of Bucharest and it has a surface about 16 hectares. It stands between two major boulevards: Regina Elisabeta blvd. and Schitu Magureanu blvd. In the east part of the gardens stands The National Colege "Gheorghe Lazar". "Cismigiu Gardens" has five entrances: two from Regina Elisabeta blvd., two from Shitu Magureanu blvd. and one from Stirbei Voda Street. The park was built in 1847 by Carl F. W. Meyer, a german architect, who designed similar parks such as those of Frederick Law Olmsted in United States of America. The word "cismigiu" comes from Turkish: a "cismea" is a public fountain and a "cismigiu" used to be the person responsible for building and maintaining public fountains.
