about:
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Romania and Bucharest (CCIRB) participates in the development of a generous programme for the social assimilation of disabled people. This is the only programme of this type in Romania. Its major aim is to promote employment of disabled people and to identify optimal solutions for their occupational training. Financed by the US Labour Department that earmarked a budget of USD 400,000, the programme is supported by the National Employment Agency (ANOFM), the Academy for Educational Development (AED) of Washington DC, the Motivation Romania Foundation, as well as other non-governmental organisations in the field. Considering the most ambitious objectives of the programme, CCIRB organised a first meeting held within the Business Council for Disabled Persons made up of representatives of employers that develop partnerships with Employment and Training Centres. Cornelia Rotaru, CEO, CCIRB: "Although the law in force gives such people rights and liberties equal to those of any other citizen, as well as facilities and advantages to employers, such information is less known and barely used in Romania. That is why CCIRB deems it necessary to become involved, definitely and efficiently, in actions meant to disseminate information on all the aspects related to the implementation of the relevant legislation, mainly in raising the awareness of the civil society and the economic actors-whether multinationals or small entrepreneurs." Padma Sastry, consultant with AED spoke of the remarkable results scored after the implementation of the programme in advanced or developing countries; she also said that the core structure had to be adjusted for the programme to be developed in Romania.
